About GSBG

The Gibraltar Sustainable Buildings Group (GSBG) was founded in response to a clearly identified gap within Gibraltar’s built environment sector. Through her work in the industry, Candice Marsh recognised a shared set of challenges among professionals: the lack of Gibraltar-specific building data, the absence of a dedicated platform for networking and knowledge exchange, and the need for locally relevant building guidelines.

To address these needs, an informal network was initiated in 2022, bringing together professionals from across the sector. The group expanded organically through word of mouth, reflecting both the demand for such a forum and the value it provided to its members. As engagement grew, it became evident that the initiative should evolve into a formal, structured organisation.

The transition was reinforced by the formation of a highly experienced leadership team. Alongside Candice, the founding members include Adrian Avellano (CEO of AMA Group), Sophie Garbarino (CEO of Montagu Pavilion Ltd), Ruth Massias Greenberg (CEO of Gamma Architects), and David McWilliams (Owner of DMA Ltd). The board has since been strengthened with the addition of Fabian Torrilla (Director of E&M). This leadership has played a pivotal role in strengthening the Group’s credibility and expanding its influence across the industry. The GSBG has also secured full support from the Minister for the Environment, Sustainability, Climate Change and Education.

Officially established as a not-for-profit organisation in November 2024, GSBG has since grown to over 120 members, including architects, engineers, developeres, contractors, project managers, and other built environment professionals. The Group has actively contributed to government and local authority consultations, supported the development of guidelines, initiated projects of local significance, and continues to work towards creating a comprehensive database of Gibraltar’s buildings.

Today, GSBG serves as a collaborative platform dedicated to knowledge-sharing, professional connection, and the advancement of sustainable building practices in Gibraltar.
